2,050 Pounds!

02/01/10

Yesterday’s shopping spree was a great success!

All the food collected from the Traditional Service was combined with what was collected from

the Center Service and moved into the Ministry Center to make it easier

for the volunteers who came to transport it to The Wilkinson Center.

This morning (Monday) they delivered

2,050 pounds

of food pantry items to the Wilkinson Center.

Thank you for your efforts and generosity!

Comments from the participants:

“It was my best church day ever!”

        Carol Walton

“One of the things I liked about this was that everyone was involved, the entire church, husbands, wives, children together. It wasn’t just Mom going to the store, shoving it in a sack and asking the kids to take it up and put it with the rest of the donations.

        Georgie Hooker

“See what we can do when we get off our butts and do something?”

        Shelly Wade

“It wasn't just about what amazing things we can do as a group. It was about what can happen when individuals decide to act. Right then. Right there. A really good example of how rewarding it can be when intentions turn into action.”

        Mike Wade

“It was just a heart-warming experience. It’s so sad that so many people are out of work and in hard situations. When we took the food to Wilkinson Center, those guys were so excited.”

        Vickie Thompson

Just received an email from the Wilkinson Center. It reads as follows…

        Cheryl Cupples

To the Membership of Ridgewood Park UMC:

What a wonderful surprise and blessing you shared with us today at The Wilkinson Center.  Thank you for giving from your hearts.  Your overwhelming generosity will help us serve many people in need.  From all of us at The Wilkinson Center we say “Thank you”—“Thank you”—“Thank you.”

The Wilkinson Center has had a significant increase in the number of people needing services in recent months. They can always use any and all the help we can give, but especially now. Let’s see if we can boost our food contributions on Communion Sundays so that many more can be served.

Thanks for being a loving and generous church family.
